First Visit

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the American Academy of Pediatrics both recommend a child establish dental care by age one. This allows the doctor to detect any developing problems early. It is most beneficial at this age to help with suggesting about infant oral care, how to decrease teething discomfort, and prevention of dental decay.

It is very important that your child’s first visit be as positive and enjoyable as possible. A pleasant, comfortable first visit builds trust and helps put the child at ease for a lifetime of dental visits. Let the child know that the doctor and staff will explain everything in detail and will answer any questions he/she may have.

Parents should not over emphasize the first visit and refrain from using any words that could cause unnecessary fear, such as “needle” or “drill.” We are experienced in dealing with children with anxiety and can explain treatment procedures in a positive and pleasant manner to avoid any anxious or negative feelings toward dentistry.

Your child’s first visit will be dictated by your child’s behavior. In other words, after reviewing the medical history, if he/she is very fearful, we will start with an introduction of the surroundings and work strongly on establishing our trust relationship. We will reinforce and teach good oral hygiene techniques and perform an oral evaluation. A subsequent visit will me made for the cleaning and fluoride application. We WELCOME PARENTS in the treatment rooms and usually find this gives a feeling of security for both child and parent during their visits.

We are always available to answer any of your questions about your child’s treatment. When treatment has been completed, you will be scheduled for periodic recall visits (usually every six months). At subsequent recall visits, examination and fluoride applications will be performed at that time as well.
