General Anesthesia
In cases where we have an infant, a child or even a teen that is in need of extensive dental treatment and has the inability to cooperate in a dental setting, general anesthesia may be recommended by any of our Pediatric Dentist. As well, it may be helpful for children with special health care needs in need of an invasive surgical procedure.
This procedure is done in a hospital setting as an Outpatient service. Dental treatment is then provided by your Pediatric Dentist of choice, under the strict supervision of pediatric medical specialists, administering the anesthesia. As a Pediatric Dentist, Dr. Ruiz, is credentialed at Joe Di Maggio’s Children Hospital to perform general anesthesia procedures on infants, children or teens. Every parent should know that children face the same risk under general anesthesia for dental treatment as for any other surgical procedure. Only highly qualified pediatric anesthesiologists and certified registered nurse anesthetists in a hospital setting provide the anesthesia services. Parents are always welcome to ask us any questions about the benefits and risks of this treatment.
